1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture

In 1946: THE MISTRANSLATION THAT SHIFTED CULTURE, Sharon “Rocky” Roggio combines personal experiences with thrilling historical exploration to uncover one of the greatest mysteries of our time, forever shifting our understanding of the Bible. The documentary follows the story of tireless researchers, Kathy Baldock and Ed Oxford, who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation in the biblical text. They find that the Revised Standard Version, published in 1946 was the first time the word “homosexual” appeared in any Bible, in any translation. The documentary also chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University which unveil astonishing new revelations, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ bias.

“A little over one month ago my feature documentary “1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture” premiered in NYC at Doc NYC. It was magical and the event teemed with excitement and anticipation for what the future would bring. Our film spent the next year touring the world, playing to packed houses, receiving standing ovations, and connecting to people’s hearts and minds” said director Sharon “Rocky” Roggio. “Online, those who could not be physically present at a festival or during theatrical runs in New York, Los Angeles and London continually queried as to when the film would be available for them to see. Not only did they want to see the work, but to share it with friends, family and loved ones…  and it is with immense joy that I can say, we are answering the call this holiday season. It’s time for the film to be shared with anyone and everyone who needs it, and I could not be more happy to do so with this limited holiday virtual theatrical release.”
