2027 Scientific and Technical Awards Call for Submissions Announced

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that submissions for the 2027 Scientific and Technical Awards are open. The deadline to submit is Thursday, July 23, at 5 p.m. PT.

Through the Scientific and Technical Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honors the individuals and companies whose discoveries and innovations have contributed in significant and lasting ways to motion pictures. Eligible submissions include devices, methods, formulas, discoveries and inventions of outstanding value to moviemaking, which will be evaluated by a committee of distinguished engineers, scientists and filmmakers.

In August, the Academy will announce the list of scientific and technical investigations that will be conducted during the award year. At that time, individuals and companies with devices or claims of innovation within these areas will have the opportunity to submit additional entries for consideration.

After thorough investigations in each technology category, the Scientific and Technical Awards Executive Committee will meet in the fall to vote on recommendations to the Academy’s Board of Governors, which will make the final awards decisions.
