New York, NY (05/06/26) – Abingdon Theatre Company (Chad Austin, Producing Artistic Director) is thrilled to share an inside look of their presentation of the new play Stella & Marlon as part of their One Night Only Series.

Stella & Marlon is written by Julia Adler Batavia and was directed by Alberto Bonilla, and took place at the Laurie Beechman Theatre on April 29, 2026.

The cast featured Maria Bilbao (Sweeney Todd), Amy Carlson (Blue Bloods), E.J. Carroll (The Deuce), Kevin Csolak (The Outsiders), Erin Davie (Diana), Colby Kipnes (The Beast in Me), and Adam Monley (Tootsie), with casting by Karie Koppel at Koppel Casting and stage management by Allison Hohman.

A dream deferred, an unexpected student, and a new beginning.

After a failed run in Hollywood, Stella Adler has little hope for the future of acting and returns to New York City to teach. That is, until an extraordinary student stumbles into her classroom. With renewed determination and challenges, she must channel her dreams through her rebellious student: the young Marlon Brando.

The company’s acclaimed One Night Only Series has served as an incubator for high-profile new work, including Alex Edelman’s Just for Us which went on to Broadway after receiving Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations; Back by Matt Webster starring Emmy Award nominee Madeline Brewer and Tony Award nominee James Cusati-Moyer; The Prompter starring Oscar-winning actress Estelle Parsons; and Subverted written and performed by Emmy Award nominee Dominique Fishback. Through their Pamela Paul Around the Table Reading Series, ATC has advanced the development of new plays, including Anonymous Skin by Artist-in-Residence Cris Eli Blak and Arancini by Joey Merlo, among many more. In 2020, ATC expanded into digital storytelling with the launch of Abingdon Virtual, led by Executive Producer Chad Austin. The initiative has produced multiple award-winning films, including As Apple Pie, written and directed by Artist-in-Residence Pierre Marais, an official selection of the Cannes World Film Festival and recipient of numerous awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Director, and Best Drama USA. Its inaugural film, It Cries Too Loudly, was an official selection of the Prague International Short Film Awards and received honors for Best Cinematography and Best Short Film at the Eastern European Film Festival.
