New York, NY (June 29th, 2023) – Today, JYP Entertainment, Republic Records and Federal Films announce upcoming July 13 premiere of the first-of-its-kind global K-Pop competition series, A2K, to be available for streaming on JYP Entertainment’s Official YouTube channel at 9PM ET / 6PM PT.
A2K stands for “America 2 Korea,” a show that chronicles the creation of the very first American girl group trained through the K-Pop system. JYP Entertainment and Republic Records hosted auditions in five major U.S. cities, namely Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas. In these five U.S. cities, countless applicants face multiple stages to finally secure the opportunity to perform in front of J.Y. Park, the Founder and Chairman of JYP Entertainment, also a top Korean artist. Those who pass the 5 city auditions are granted the A2K Pendant, the key to the next stage: Boot Camp in Los Angeles.
The candidates are assessed based on four major traits that make up the ultimate K-Pop star—dancing, singing, star quality, and character. Only the contestants who prove their competence in these four qualities receive the ticket to be trained in the JYP Entertainment headquarters in Seoul. In the birthplace of K-Pop, the candidates experience the exclusive JYP training that produced numerous renowned global top K-Pop groups, including TWICE, Stray Kids, ITZY, and NMIXX.The contestants are assessed by top JYP executives, including J.Y. Park himself, who will ultimately decide the final members of the debuting global girl group. Drama and spectacle ensue in between as the girls grow, learn, and evolve into tomorrow’s leading global stars.
For the very first time in history, A2K implements the legendary K-Pop idol training model, formula, and discipline into a Western framework, channeling the core elements of music, fashion, talent, and fans. The series will notably be spearheaded by J.Y. Park and Republic Records Founder and Chief Executive Monte Lipman.
The all-girl supergroup comprised through A2K will partner with both JYP Entertainment and Republic Records for all future music releases.
