STUPID QUESTION ALERT: Are you seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens this weekend? Yeah that’s what I thought. Well if you’ve got tickets to the very sold-out 3D screening of it this weekend at the historic Cinerama-Dome, you’re in for another treat within that. Not only will you be witnessing the rebirth of the now forever franchise, you’ll also be witnessing it in the newest 3D technology, a collaboration between the famed Dolby 3D and Christie laser technologies. The dome viewing experience is now upgraded with dual-head Christie 6P laser projectors and Dolby 3D, specifically aimed for the release of Star Wars screenings there tonight. I got to preview the new technology yesterday, and what I can say is you’re in for a hell of a crisp, cleaner viewing experience in the 3D, even though now, more than ever, the images on screen really come at you. Audience members who usually don’t enjoy seeing films in 3D, might very well convert, given that this format makes for a more comforting experience, with less flickering between both lenses in the new, very slick and light-weight glasses, where the creators involved have made them using advanced color separation, instead of the usual polarization technology. But that’s just tech-talk. One things for sure, if you enjoy 3D and are seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens at The Dome, prepare to have your skirt blown up.
