Inaugural fundraiser to celebrate what would have been the 99th birthday of legendary singer, actor, activist, and Sankofa.org co-founder Harry Belafonte, and to close out Black History Month.

This star-studded benefit — taking place at the historic Chaplin Studios, where Belafonte helped launch the 1985 charity single “We Are the World” — will celebrate art, activism, and the power of story.

The evening will also present the Sankofa.org Social Justice Awards recognizing the unwavering commitment for justice, honoring four cultural icons whose lives and work have reshaped the intersection of art, justice, and social change: Danny Glover, Dolores Huerta, Shepard Fairey, and Chuck D.

Featuring live performances and intimate moments with: Monique Mitchell, Harry Belafonte Best Song for Social Change Grammy recipient Iman Jordan, Grammy Award-nominated Aloe Blacc, Grammy Award winner Chuck D with renowned journalist and radio personality Dominique DePrima, who will be in conversation with the performers.

Proceeds for the event will benefit Sankofa.org, co-founded in 2013 by Harry Belafonte, his daughter Gina Belafonte, and Raoul Roach.

“This inaugural Los Angeles fundraiser is a celebration of legacy, and it marks an important milestone for Sankofa.org. We carry this work with gratitude for those who came before us and for those who continue to show us what courage looks like. My father believed in the power of collaboration and that artists are the gatekeepers of truth. He stood alongside artists and organizers who have shaped generations. Our honorees remind us that art doesn’t just reflect the times, it helps change them.” – Gina Belafonte, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Sankofa.org

ABOUT SANKOFA.ORG

Sankofa.org was founded by Harry Belafonte, his daughter Gina Belafonte, and Raoul Roach in 2012. Its mission is to educate, motivate, and activate artists and allies in service of grassroots movements and equitable change. Sankofa.org focuses on issues of injustice that disproportionately affect the disenfranchised, the oppressed, and the underserved, which left unaddressed will continue to impact the lives of too many individuals and remain a scar on our nation’s moral character. The non-profit organization is fiscally sponsored by Social Environmental Entrepreneurs.
